What it Means to Be Saved

Pastor Ken May

Getting saved does not mean you came forward in an invitation and you filled out a card and now you're on the church roll, and when the roll is called up yonder,  you're thinking, "I'll be there." What it means to be saved is to know you're a sinner. Romans teaches us,

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

-Romans 3:23

AND

"The wages of sin is death."

-Romans 6:23

Death is separation from life and breathing and all that. Well, spiritual death is separation from God, who is life and light and eternal blessing. So, we are sinners, and in order to be saved, we're willing to acknowledge that. We're willing to say, "God, I am a sinner, and therefore I need a Savior."

And so we come to Him, and we say, "I hear you saying, 'Come and see,' and I have come seeking, and I find that you are the Christ, the Hamashiach, the Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus, Savior. You are the Son of God who came from heaven, revealed Himself, died for my sins so my sins could be washed away by Your blood, and You rose from the dead so that You could put Your spirit in me.

And now that I've come seeking with my head and my heart, I now choose to follow You." And how do I do that?Romans says

"I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord."

-Romans 10:9

That means my head knows the truth, but it has to be more than the head, because even the demons know that much. It has to be that I now choose with my heart to receive you as Savior and Lord, to allow your Holy Spirit to come into me, and I will follow you.

So being a good Christian means I am following Jesus. How do you follow Him? You talk to Him, you listen to Him, you obey Him in everything. That is what it's all about.
