EASTER IS COMING!
Easter is the popular name for the coming holy day. Resurrection Sunday is the scriptural name for that incredible day when Jesus Christ our LORD rose form the grave conquering death and sin and hell. C.S. Lewis described the Resurrection as the "Grand Miracle," which opened the door that had been locked closed by sin since Adam and Eve. In on of his works, Preparing for Easter, he includes fifty readings of essays, poems, and letters for meditation from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. While most Baptists have not focused on the Catholic season of lent because it is not given in scripture, this time of year is an opportunity to meditate and prepare our hearts for Resurrection Sunday.
HOW CAN WE PREPARE?
- Take time to read the Scripture. Here are the Gospel passages:
Matthew 26-28
Mark 15-16
Luke 22-24
John 17-20
These passages include the Last Supper that Jesus celebrated with His disciples, His Betrayal by Judas, The six trials and the crucifixion, the burial, the Resurrection, and Jesus' appearances to His disciples. - Meditate on a specific passage and spend time in prayer thanking God for His "Grand Miracle" that has set us free from sin and death and hell.
- Get together with family or friends and take time to talk about the cross and resurrection.
- Evaluate your life and see if there is anything that needs to be nailed to the cross. Confess your sins. Let Jesus wash you clean and take away anything that is not pleasing to Him.
- Invite a friend or family member or neighbor to join you on April 5th for Worship here at First Baptist Church. Sharing Jesus is what Resurrection Sunday is all about. Each of those who witnessed His Resurrection ran to tell somebody. We should do the same!
Easter is a special time of the year because of the emphasis on the Resurrection of Jesus. The season points to Jesus and new life. The images associated with the holiday remind us of joy and newness. Let us take time to prepare for the most important holiday of the year. His life means eternal life all who believe.
